Okay! A little Fae 101 for you all. Under no circumstances should you ever give anyone your full name ever. Fae do weird stuff with names, so if you don't want it being used against you, keep whatever you most identify with to yourself. ...although sometimes even then it's not guaranteed they won't just pull it out of your head.

Anyway, I figure someone should say something to that effect since we don't know who all we're dealing with, and I don't like the general radio silence.

[The turtle teen slides a nervous look around before shaking his head.]

...also what is it with the shadows? I mean, I'm not one to complain about the color but that's not just me seeing things, right?

And in any other situation he'd insist on opening them to get some fresh air in, but... not right now.

"Everyone else!" Just happens that the people Donnie knows found some worse bits of his history to poke, which really isn't anyones fault.

No, no, bad topic to even go near. Pretend you never saw that, even if it takes him a minute to figure out how to delete it.

[Telling Donnie to forget something is like telling a cat not to lick the cream you set right beside it.

But he falls silent all the same, unsure what to say. Perhaps wondering what it said about him and the company he kept.]

Silence is preferable to questions he'd rather not answer.

"Look, I don't think she's a bad person. We just have a very different understanding of the value of money."

[Donnie lets out an audible breath then.]

Oh. Yeah, better to just avoid conversations on that topic with her.

[He could say more, because he thinks, at least from what he'd heard from the Hunt, that even Day had a better chance at life than Maya would have ever had. But that's not his story to tell.]

"Yeah, I noticed as much."

He just... avoids conflict, a little, so they haven't exactly talked since. It's a luxury he didn't have before, to just walk away from a fight before it gets worse.

I think she'd try to understand if you gave her the chance. But otherwise, she can't help but know what she knows.

[But staying on this subject isn't going to make things better, and Donnie's not sure why he has to be the one defending people's reputations, not when they really aren't that great.]

Have you been to the forest recently?

Really not Donnies fault their respective pasts grind against each other so. He'd change it, if he knew how.

"No. Didn't quite feel safe to do alone."

[Donnie says nothing more on that line of talk. He never used to run defense for those he kept company with on the R2, and there were plenty of disagreements there. Why should he care what other people thought about someone he liked, so long as it didn't interfere with his own relationships with those people?

He finds himself snorting, shoving away the thought.]

Yeah. I...kind of wish I had curtains or something. Didn't anticipate having a nice view would backfire.

[He didn't like feeling like something somehow was staring back, whenever he looked out there.]

The staring back was just like home, Day normally wouldn't mind it. But the feeling of being watched bothered him, even if he couldn't explain it.

Too much window, too little material to work with that could be better used for other things.

Magic won't solve everything. Now stop sounding like I mean to get myself killed or something. Of course I'm going to be careful. But I'm not going to sit around waiting like a piece of meat in a trap.

Later. Going directly there seems unnecessary when whatever's around doesn't seem to be staying there right now.

Perhaps we can lure it with Werthers. That worked with the Raincoat Man at home.

Why not? The Raincoat Man scared all the customers away too. Would just stand at the edge of the forest and watch, all awkward with too long fingers and too many joints and hiding his face.

Alternative we can gas it out with that horrible fruit the food machines are now fond of.

Or it might turn out that it likes the scent and we end up giving ourselves a disadvantage.

True. Do we even have any space we could lure something in, trap it, without danger to others?

You've got the directional sense and have probably seen more of the ship than I have. But I wonder if we can lure it towards one of the areas that are otherwise compromised. If it's from the forest then there's a good chance it still needs oxygen like we do.

There's more than enough empty rooms, away from others. Perhaps towards the back of the ship - the forest stretches almost all the way through to there.

I'm not sure if something changed that's prompted whatever it is to leave the forest, or they were being actively kept there somehow, but hopefully it's not multiple.

Let's have a look back there while we're keeping an eye out.

Maybe just our presence. I know at least my magic doesn't reach out, it's simply receptive.

I'll see about drawing a map up too.

Maybe. [Donnie sounds like he isn't quite sold on that though.] Something's changed though. Been changing.
